It’s back to school season almost everywhere, which means this week is full of the best deals! We still have a month left of summer here in Michigan, but this week the school supply displays went up at my local Walmart. There were so many great deals that items were already selling out! I love to plan ahead (and avoid crowds), so I’m bringing you the best school supply deals that you can shop right from home. This will be my sixth year teaching and this list is full of items I can’t live without- whether you’re a teacher or parent, this list will have you ready for the first day of school!
Pencils & Pens
Dixon Ticonderoga Presharpened 30 ct.– Ask any teacher, these are HANDS DOWN the best pencils. They write smoothly and erase well. Even students get frustrated when they erasing with other pencils. They also sharpen really easily and last a long time, but the timesaver here is getting them PRE-SHARPENED right in the box! It saves so much time and is so much less distracting for teachers to be able to just get a pencil out of the box and hand it to a student without having to sharpen it.
PaperMate Flair Pens (12 Pack)- A lot of teachers LOVE these for grading and planning. They write like markers but don’t leak through the page. They’re currently on sale for under $10!
PaperMate Ink Joy Pens (10 Pack)– These are my personal favorite! They’re gel pens that glide really smoothly but don’t leak. I love using them in my planner and on my calendar, and they’re great for teaching students to organize a schedule as well. Plus, the colors are the best and really show up bright on paper!
My First Ticonderoga (12 pack)– I loved these when I taught K-1! They’re the best for supporting the developmental needs of children learning to write. Plus, they break a lot less easily due to the thick barrel!
Art Supplies
I always make a point to leave these three items off student school supply lists and just provide them for the entire class. The quality is truly the best- other crayons break easily and other gluesticks/markers dry out quickly. This time of year, I get them in bulk so I don’t have to worry about replacing them when the price goes up! It actually saves me a lot of time and money in the long run.
These were also the items that were almost sold out in my local store! I shared a picture below- the display was up for no longer than 3 days before everything was gone! The Rollback is THAT good.
Crayola crayons (24 ct). – 0.50/box
Crayola markers (10 ct)– 0.97/ box
Elmer’s glue sticks (60 ct)– This box will last the ENTIRE school year and even carry over into the next!
Dry Erase Essentials
Whiteboards are essential for any K-5 classroom and can add up quickly throughout the year- they hardly ever go on sale, so now’s the time!
Expo Chisel Tip Vibrant Colors (8 pk).– These are on sale and the color selection is full of teacher favorites (goodbye, brown!)
Expo 36 ct Fine Tip Markers– 36 markers for around $20 is a STEAL. This is enough for a class set and will last you all year.
24 pack of Whiteboard Erasers– I got this classroom set 3 years ago and haven’t looked back!
Teacher Favorites
These didn’t really have a category but they’re truly items I can’t live without during the school year! This is always the most affordable time of year to stock up.
Post- It Self Stick Tabletop Easel Pad– I love this easel pad for small group instruction! Markers don’t leak through the thick pages.
Clorox Wipes (4 ct).- BUY 3, GET 1 FREE. That is all.
Scotch Thermal Laminating Pouches (100 ct)– If you have a personal laminator, these are the BEST. 100 for $10 is a steal.
PS- how amazing is this pencil organizer?! It holds all my teaching essentials!
See what I mean?! The in-store displays were almost all sold out of the best deals!
